After his military service, Daniel received his Bachelor's degree in Fish and Wildlife Sciences from Texas A&M University, and his Master's in Wildlife Science with an emphasis in Fisheries Management, where he collaborated with the AgriLife Extension Service to revamp the pond management publication for the state of Texas .
